Cold
Symptoms:
- Nasal discomfort with watery discharge
and sneezing
- Red, swollen throat
- Swollen lymph nodes on the neck
- Fever
- Usually lasts 3-4 days
Most of the symptoms of a cold are the
result of our body’s defense mechanisms working properly! Our own immune
system releases compound-INTERFERON and causes many flu-like symptoms.
The Best Cold Remedies:
- Rest / Adequate Sleep — During
sleep, potent immune system-enhancing compounds are released
- Avoid sugar — sugar inhibits
immune system function
- Consume liquids — Keeps
respiratory tract moist and hydrated; helps with blood cells.
Avoid or greatly dilute fruit juice because of the high levels of sugars
- sugar reduces the ability of white blood cells to kill bacteria
- Vitamin C — Many studies have
shown the efficacy of vitamin C on colds.
Dosage: 1000-6000 mg/day will decrease the duration of a cold by 20%.
500-1,000mg every 2 hours decreases likelihood of bowel irritation and
diarrhea
- Zinc Lozenges — Zinc has
natural antiviral, antibacterial and anti-oxidant properties, reducing
the severity and duration of cold symptoms.
Dosage: Lozenges of 15-25 mgs elemental Zinc and made with
glycine taken every 2 hours while awake for 4-6 days. Colloidal zinc is
also recommended
- Vitamin A or Beta Carotene. Use
high doses for short term.
