These healthful "Radio Tips"
are excerpted from
Dr. Roberts' Sunday morning radio program.


Eat a predominately vegetarian diet
  • Plant foods are more easily digested by most people
  • We have a long bowel that is like an herbivores' digestive tract
  • Some scientists think we are more suited to vegetarian diets
  • In general our meat has 25-30% fat

Most Americans currently derive over 50% of calories from animal foods

Benefits of Vegetarian Diet  
  • High dietary fiber
  • low in saturated fat
  • high in essential fatty acids

Eating more plant foods is recommended by:

  • National Academy of Science
  • US Dept. of Health and Human Services
  • National Research Council
  • National Cancer Institute

Other dietary tips:

  • Avoid trans-fatty acids in hydrogenated oils, in processed foods, and margarine
  • Be aware or proper HDL/LDL ratios
  • Avoid or eliminate refined sugars — they cause "increased insulin sensitivity,"
    sudden insulin increases that ultimately lead to hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)
  • Decrease food additives
  • Keep salt intake low
  • Take antioxidants
  • Address food allergies
